Safety and Shelter

A journey in the landscape of Quiet Leadership, guided by Julian Stodd.

Safety and Shelter is a Social Leadership programme for those who have lost something.

It considers ‘Loss’, ‘Hope’, ‘Resilience’, and ‘Breath’.

Why this Programme?

In our shifting cultural context, some people feel that they have lost something: aspects of their identity, safety, or support.

This work does not take a particular stance or political perspective, but rather recognises that many people are carrying a great weight from the changes in their systems, and that we can provide a space of dialogue and shelter.

It is intended to be an open and respectful space, and specifically a space ‘out of the ordinary’. A space of shelter. Not a performance space.

Programme Format

Over two ninety minute sessions we consider four topics.

‘Loss’ is an open exploration of what has been taken or lost. It considers our relationship with certainty, and questions of agency and control.

‘Hope’ is about the belief we have in each other, and the ways we act within our systems. It’s about the smallest of actions in local spaces, together.

‘Resilience’ reminds us that we do not need to withstand shocks, but rather have an ability to take the energy out of the blows, and to come back upright. This is about individual and collective strength, and the systems within which it is held.

Finally, ‘Breath’ is a pause: a chance to consider both our rights and our responsibilities, and how we create spaces of shelter.

Everyone is welcome in this space, to bring their story, and to listen to others. It is a space of dialogue, not dominance.

Quiet Leadership considers leadership in the very smallest of actions: in this work, we consider our ability to provide shelter, for whoever needs it.

Your Guide

Julian Stodd is the author of the Social Leadership Handbook, and the lead researcher and guide for the original Quiet Leadership journey, which considered leadership in the smallest of actions, exploring ‘Humility’, ‘Kindness’, ‘Fairness’, and ‘Grace’.
